Exciting Times Ahead!!!
As we stated in our last newsletter, we were beginning the process of looking for our own church facility. Iglesia Radical has been very gracious to allow us to rent their facility for the last three years, and we will continue to do so in the interim. Sharing this facility has been ideal for us in these critical establishing years, and we know that the Lord has led us to establish Horizon Church as a self-sustaining church that will be a lighthouse in this community for many years to come.
We are excited to announce that we have found property, made an offer and will close on this land on December 12th!! This property is in a perfect location–located on the first entrance into Jaco, on a main road, and right near the center of Jaco. We are so excited about God’s provisions and His leading in all of this! Please pray with us as we approach the closing date, and as we begin to raise funds to build. We are fully aware of the huge task set before us, and we know that it is only by God’s grace and the leading of the Holy Spirit that any of this will be accomplished.
**If you are interested in giving financially to the building of Horizon Church Jaco, please see the information on giving below. You can give through Shepherds Staff for tax deductible giving. Above all, PLEASE pray with us!

We are always so thankful for the Mission Teams that come and serve with us throughout the year! We had teams from California, Tennessee and a World Race Team from all over the US. These teams were such a blessing as they ministered in a variety of ways! These teams did construction, worked with our Kids Club Outreach, led Horizon Kids Camp, served in local schools, fed the homeless, led prayer walks, etc. Each team was such a blessing and were so faithful to serve where they were needed! Thank you so much to each group!!

Women’s Day of Prayer
As a church, we have been intentional about creating a culture of prayer. We know the power of prayer, and that prayer truly does change things. Last month, we took time as a Women’s Group to pray over Jaco as a whole. We created a map of the entire city, taped in on the floor and literally walked the “streets” and prayed over restaurants, businesses, hotels, etc. A group in our church has put together a Prayer Directory highlighting all businesses, their owners and how we can pray for them, so we used this as a guide. It was a powerful time, and the Lord spoke to many in specific ways. We are excited about all the Lord is doing here–please pray with us!!
Annual Thanksgiving Outreach
Our Annual Thanksgiving Outreach was a huge success! Many people from the community came and enjoyed food and fellowship, and we met many new people! Our volunteers did an amazing job serving all who attended! Because of the threat of Hurricane Otto, the church was used as a shelter for the evacuees from the riverbed communities. We had close to 100 evacuees staying at the church on Thanksgiving night. We also had the Red Cross and members of the Police Force on sight for the night. The biggest blessing for all of us this Thanksgiving was watching God multiply the food so that we could feed all the evacuees and all of the rescue personnel that were staying on the property! It was so amazing!! Glory to God!!
Each week at Kids Club, each child takes a bag of beans and rice home to help feed the family. We have been doing this for many years, and we have heard many stories of how this bag of food has fed families who otherwise would have had nothing that week. With Hurricane Otto hitting to the north of us and destroying many towns and homes, we gave the children and moms a chance to give back. The kids were given the option to take their bag home this week (if it was a dire need) or to sacrifice and donate it to another family in need in the town of Upala. (We have a Pregnancy Center in Upala and Daniel took a group up there to deliver goods and to help for a day.) I really had no idea what the response would be, but, one by one, the children and moms came forward to give back, donating their bag of beans and rice to others in need. It was the most amazing moment to experience and to see the joy and excitement in the children as they were so excited to bless others! To experience the “needy” being givers and sacrificing what was rightly theirs–so incredible!!!
Here are a few of the kids giving back!!
Thanks to each of you for your continuous prayer and financial support! We could not be here ministering in Jaco if it were not for youas the other half of our team! We are so blessed by the way the Lord continues to meet our every need on a monthly basis. Please continue to pray for the following: Horizon Church as we continue to grow and make disciples; our Horizon Church ministry team as we search for a Worship Leader and a new location; protection for us and our children; Jaco and the lost; intentional discipleship with those who are new to the faith; CasaFe’; that we would be faithful to prayer and the ministry of the Word and for wisdom and discernment as we listen and follow the Lord’s leading in all things. We love you!
Blessings, Daniel, Sarah, Thomas, Jacob and Micah Barrett
