Daniel Barrett and his wife, Sarah, are church planting missionaries in Jaco, Costa Rica. They have three children: Thomas (9), Jacob (7), and Micah (2).
Daniel grew up in Chattanooga, TN where he felt the call to full time Christian service when he was a young teenager. After completing 2 years at Tennessee Temple University, he transferred to Columbia International University where he completed his studies with degrees in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry.
Sarah grew up in Sumter, SC, attended Columbia College and graduated with degrees in Business Administration and Spanish. They met while serving together in ministry with Young Life and were married in 2003. Daniel has served in full time Christian Service since 1996 as Youth Pastor, Worship Leader and Associate Pastor.
While in Youth Ministry, Daniel’s heart had always been to expose students to missions due to his childhood memories of spending weeks each summer on a different mission field with his family. While in Mexico with the Youth Group at Calvary Chapel Lexington, God confirmed His calling for The Barretts to pursue full time missions.
In January 2009 they moved to Costa Rica and began serving different ministries. In the summer of 2012 they recognized the growing need for an international church in Jaco. Later that same year they stepped out in faith and began pursuing the vision that God had giving them for that church. In addition, they continued ministering to the local Spanish speakers through a weekly kids club, youth group and Women’s Bible study. After months of praying and visioning, they began an English speaking Bible Study as a ministry of Iglesia Radical, a local Spanish church. From this God-given vision, Horizon Church was born.
