Rye Bell

Rye and his wife Becky are missionaries to Costa Rica serving alongside a number of area mission programs.  Becky is a gifted teacher and mentor in women’s ministry.

Rye was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and committed his life to Christ at an early age.  His walk with the Lord became focused while attending The University of Tennessee and earning a Bachelor of Science (Education).  During this time he became active at the Christian Student Fellowship.  He continued his education at UT and received a Master of Science in Social Work and then on to Oxford (post-graduate school) earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Religion and Society.  His focus was on Biblically based counseling.   Rye is a member of the Oxford Society of Scholars and was a Charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.

As the Pastor of Discipleship and Care for Horizon Church, Rye works with the other staff focusing on the day-to-day operations of the church’s activities.  He also works with the church body giving Biblically based support.  This support is offered through one-on-one contacts with individuals and families, leading and facilitating Bible study groups and training interested believers to become mentors within the congregation.

Rye and his wife Becky have five children.  The two youngest are in Costa Rica with Mom and Dad.  The two oldest children are married with growing families of their own.   Their middle child is serving in the United States Army.

Both Rye and Becky felt God had invited them to come to Jaco and support the Horizon Church and other ministry efforts already making a difference for the cause of Christ.
